The 5th grade has a tradition during their study of World War I to take their learning to a new level – get out and experience it for themselves! Doughboy Day gives them that opportunity!
The morning begins with calisthenics in the gym, with lots of gruff shouts and commands from those in charge. Marching drills follow, and then out to the trenches, literally, for more drills and a game of war with tennis ball grenades!
The students look forward to this day with excitement and trepidation. While they greatly enjoy the activities from start to finish, and learn even more what a doughboy experienced in WWI, they end the day quite exhausted, but proud of their accomplishments as WW1 vets!
